I know what you mean Bunkie. It really is hard when you have animals. You can't just take off anytime you would like to, we are lucky (?) that we have family all around us who can be trusted, but still you hate to ask them to do it for too many days. It really is a pain to feed all of our rabbits. It was hard to pick a date for this, I know that there will be no 'best' time for everyone. At least for this area, Sept should see a little lower humidity, even though temps will probably still be upper 70's & 80's. Harvest should hopefully be completed for most things that people will need to can, and fall crops shouldn't need too much attention in Sept yet. I will be happy if even 10 families can come. We'll take lots of pics.

HEY! I just thought of sumthin today! My 'shrumies will be poppin' bout that time! SO, I had a thought... How many folks who are gonna plan to come are interested in growing shiitake mushrooms but haven't taken the plunge yet? We could bring a couple of our logs, they are 4 years old now and pretty light weight and see if we can remove some of the mychrorizza from our logs and implant it into some logs there.

Check out the French Lick links, there may be something there to interest them if they aren't into gardening.

What kinda stuff do your wives want to do? I'm all for antique shopping! Maybe something to do with fiber arts? I can teach knitting and I'd love to learn spinning and weaving and other related activities. Pottery? What about music? My boys will bring a drum, symbols, and a tambourine. How about having a dance one night? Do I need to bone up on my potato salad and macaroni salad making skills? OOOoOOOo we could kill a hog and make sausage for everyone to take home! ::sigh:: I'm hungry

This is the West Baden hotel, expensive but maybe this would be to their liking? I think it is at least a couple hundred bucks a night. They could do all the spa stuff, maybe golf & tennis? I didn't mention it before, but French Lick Springs is a casino. French Lick & West Baden are technically seperate towns, but they are a mile apart, and the same group owns both hotels. I am not trying to promote gambling, but it is there if anyone would like to go. They are both historic hotels, that area was famous for illegal gambling in the 20's, and many celebrities and politicians stayed there. From Al Capone to Presidents. They have been restored, and I do think they would be worth a trip to see if you are in the area. There are exceptional golf courses if that is your thing, and in fact there will be a PGA event there this year at the Pete Dye course. But, there isn't any real shopping to speak of. We are in the middle of the sticks, and there just isn't the population to support cute little boutique sorts of shops. Still, I think that we could find something of interest for a couple of days.

Did I mention Jim and Dan (and any other interested parties who would be in town for a few days) that Indiana squirrel season starts August 15'th and they are pretty fat by the middle of september and that I have more than enough guns to make it worth your while to come hunting with me! Also, it will be ginseng season, and this will be my first years harvest, if anyones in town for a while at that time you can come learn about ginseng and help me get my first harvest in.

DUDE! You CAN'T not show up! Who else but me and Alan are gonna do the "Cotton Eye Joe"? Alan is gonna need some relief! Dan and Jim, can your wives and kids come in separate cars? I can understand the "Brothers Trip", but we are bringing our boys and when it comes to kids, the more the merrier!
