Seems I have overlooked popcorn and since as of this year most of my long term projects are done I wouldn't mind to start working on a popcorn genepool. Anybody got some good seed varieties to share. The taller and stronger the stem the better in my situation.

JOSEPH & DAR!!!! I shouldn't have said that but the truth is Joseph's pop is TRULY drool worthy. I know cause I've tasted it. Dar's SOUNDS drool worthy! I'd love to try it! I'd be willing to pay them for popcorn to eat this year! (PSSST THIS IS A VERY BROAD HINT GENTLEMEN!)

Alan, I came across a parching corn in Sonoma County at a farm stand. It was parched and ground and they were selling it like hotcakes. The farmer took me back to his commercial kitchen and sold me a pound of parching seed. I sent about 1/4 of it to Joseph. Are you interested in some too?
I can send it along with the next batch of sunflower seeds (the grey stripe is always a little late.)

I'm very interested in parch corn. I've tried Supai Red and am now growing Tostada de Arequipa for seed. Any idea what yours is?

Cortona: PM sent and definitely! 12540dumont, thanks for the offer and much appreciated and as always I'm still looking for corn diversity and Parch/Flour corn is one area I'm short on. I'll definitely give it a go my friend! Alan, I came across a parching corn in Sonoma County at a farm stand. It was parched and ground and they were selling it like hotcakes. Gentlemen, I'll send it out on Friday. I bought this from Tierra Vegetables. They have a website, you can probably ask them.
Tierra Vegetables sells very pricey stuff in SF and at their roadside stand in Sonoma County.
Regards, Holly

I checked their site; it looks like their parch corn is Supai Red. When I grew that, I got a very poor return through no fault of the corn; it turned out that irrigation circuit wasn't hooked up! Duh! One peril of being an absentee farmer is being clueless. Another is setting the clocks without one's glasses; turns out it makes a difference whether they're set for AM versus PM. So many mistakes, so little time. I have more seed for Supai Red, and will give it another shot.
Looking into parch corn, it appears that flour corns in general have possible use in parching, so I've got several varieties to grow out so I can try that. I'm very partial to snacks that I can fill my cheek with and chew one piece at a time while I work. Probably was a chipmunk in the woodpile.
