I know this thread was made to test the ads or whatever but I think www.paperbackswap.com is pretty neat. I haven't used it lately but have recieved some nice books from there.

What about a book swap? Anyone interested in something like that? I read a lot, and I've got some books that I would love to push (better than the pot I've been accused of pushing-haha) Any interest in something like that? Along the lines of books like "A Fine Balance", "Oryx and Crake", fiction but what you think is good fiction. Even Carl Hiassen (love him). Just a thought.

I love to read too and the house is cluttered with a ton of books I've collected. I would do a swap provided that I could trade for an instructional or reference type book. I enjoy learning something new that I can go apply after I read the book; I've always viewed fiction as a waste of the small amount of quite reading time I have at the end of a day

I can't believe you think fiction is a waste of time. And a lot of fiction is entertainment, of course, but it can be instructional as well. And I'd rather read a good book than watch the idiot box. A good book is something you can go back to over and over, just like you rely on an old friend.

Yea I've heard the disbelief story before about fictions books before but I really want to invest my reading time into learning something I have an interest in already. My reading comprehension is poor if there are any distractions around me and my quite time to sit and read is limited.
For me it's hard to read with the TV on or several family members in the same room caring on a conversation so when I do get a little quite time there's always something I'm trying to learn to do or something I know how to do that I want to improve, lately I've been reading a lot of books on business / project management / handling difficult employees / effective employee evaluations etc etc.
I didn't finish high school and as far as I know I'm the only guy in our organization who is managing a business unit without a collage degree. So when I read I'm after something I can apply to make life a little easier.

I'd love to do a book exchange... I think CCF is on the right track to say what he'd want to recieve. It'd be cool to trade some books we thought were good. I'm thinking we might want to indicate if we've read all of someone already, too... for example, I know Margaret Atwood's a fabulous author, but I've read her books, and own them, so Sammy would want to send Oryx and Crake to someone else. Know what I mean? And maybe we should know what someone absolutely won't read, like for example CCF's non-fiction stance, or the fact that I was forced to read a Jan Karon Mitford novel once (book club) and almost burned my first book!

YES!! Count me in. Media postage is cheap, too. And I do agree that we should post what books we want to receive, for instance, I don't read any stuff like John Grisham or Daniel Steele (I gagged a little there). Sounds great...let's get started!

CFF, I am with you on the fiction. I don't even know any of the authors mentioned here, well, I have heard of John Grisham, think there was a movie my husband watched yesterday that was based on a book of his. I have lots of books, all either about gardening, or business. Oh, and I do collect Little Golden kids books, don't think those count. I do have a few I would be willing to part with. Already gave Alan some I thought he would like. I thought that they would be better off with Alan than my kids pitching them when I'm gone.

Ok, so how do we start it? I wasn't sure which thread to put it in. Should we have lists of what we have as well as what we would like to read?
