Bought one of these today and tried it. Lovely looking melon and very good flavour. Decided to look it up on the internet and was disappointed to find that it is a product of Monsanto, a company whose products I try to avoid. Oh well, damage done so I'll enjoy the rest of the melon. Also, the seed looked good so I'll save some and sow them next season. Anyone want any seeds? The melon had quite a few.

Am I being paranoid to think this being trademarked by Monsanto could lead to legal threats against anyone growing it without permission? Their connection to Blackwater/Xe/Academe makes me wonder whether this site is monitored by them. I suppose that melon is a hybrid?

The trademark only applies to the name Bel Oro, not the melon itself. If I ever grew them for sale, and I won't be, I certainly wouldn't apply that name to them. They are, in any case, probably a hybrid, as you have suggested steev, so what grows from the seeds won't be the same as the original.
As to whether this site is monitored by Monsanto I can't see that it matters. No one here is plotting their downfall. Of course I may be wrong on that one. If so, please PM me!

Now, there's an idea, a plot! Gee, I hope it thickens with a sharp denouement that ends in the complete collapse of the company along with their other world destroyers/buddies.
Ray, let me know when my package to you comes.
