Someone explain to me how steroids in baseball and Roger Clemons apparently bleeding ass wound from a bad shot is somehow more worth the time of congress than truly important issues like the war in Iraq, national debt, and the erosion of civil liberties.
Our country needs to get our damn priorities together, on the list of things for this country to be worried about, Roger Clemons Bleeding ass and steroids in baseball have got to be somewhere on or around page 30,000 in a listing of national priorities.
Congress, this is to you, do what this country put you in office to do, help to run and protect this country from actual threats. I don't care if a baseball player shoots himself up 1,000 times daily with horse steroids, his choice. And before someone jumps in and says "well, it puts a bad impression on the kids..blah, blah, blah." Take the time to accept responsibility for your own parenting, if you kid starts doing drugs (most of the time) it's likely not because a baseball player is doing it, but more likely because you suck as a parent.

Alan, For the most part, I agree with you. It's been a pretty much do-nothing Congress for the past few years anyway.
The part you are missing though is if they are busy wasting time on this issue, they don't have the time to raise our taxes or remove MORE freedoms...

Yeah, Alan, I agree. I think that they either can't or just are unwilling to tackle any of the difficult problems. So they take on the easy things.
Rob, you're right too. My strategy for voting in November is to vote for the party who is not going to control congress. That way, sure, nothing will get done, but nothing BAD may not get done too. Divided gov't is the best, IMHO.

Whether or not Congress wastes time investigating steroid use by professional athletes (since they're gonna waste time on something or other) doesn't bother me as much as whether such an investigation is enabled by the Constitution. I woulda thought investigations of crimes (if in fact a violation of federal law exists in this case) is the business of the Justice Department (part of the Executive Branch) and not a bunch of half-ass, knee-jerk lawyers on sabbatical (the Legislative Branch of our government).

I personally believe that most of the way things are is for a reason. It may seem flawed and corrupt to some of us but it didn't develope randomly and reflects its intentions pretty well. I'm not sure there is much to do about it except maybe organize individually and locally and try to network in a larger way.

Well, I agree with Alan here, congress oughta be doing something useful and investigating drugs in baseball <gasp! they do drugs?> is not one of them. I would think that ending the war, repairing the economy etc...would be nice. If they want to reform something, maybe the banking industry would be a good place to start. Then there is big oil, health care and maybe global warming (threw that in for Pyro). And Pyro, your wrong, no matter what Congress does, they will have time to tax us and mess with our freedoms.

I have to say, though, when the congressmen were describing Clemens bleeding through his designer pants "due to a palpable mass on his buttocks" I did have to grin a little. At the sheer ignominy of it.
Meanwhile, there is still no IQ test to be allowed to vote... therefore, the tools who are emailing the photo of Obama in "native garb" and claiming it's evidence of his radical terrorist leanings, but still have no issue with the photos of Bush holding hands with King Abdullah, will vote. Twice, if their cousin Bubba is running the table at their local polling station. For Rick Santorum as a write in, if they can figure out how to spell his name.
And China still has us by our short hairs... but who cares if the crap at Walmart is still cheap, right?

Johno ... calm down ... take a few deep breaths ... save some outrage for later in the year ... it can only get worse the closer we get to the General Election!

Yes, the Congress can open investigations, but those should be limited to investigations of Executive Branch abuses ... and God knows there are sufficient abuses by the current EB to warrant investigations that would make their current dog and pony show about steroids look like a Georgetown wine and cheese party. pv
