I have a spill chekr on my kompootr. Boy, I get tied up with RL for about three weeks and all sorts of things happen ... Blue's gone and back (glad yer back, Blue) ... Randel's HERE! (Is that legal? Glad yer here, Randel.) ... iDig thread is still laced with vitriol ... Keep the SoapBox open for ADULTS. Leave the personal attacks, NON-FOOD politics and religion remarks inside your head.

At the outset allow me to say I like your "soapbox", though I managed to go quite a while without even spotting it. As I see it, problem is that if this section of the forum thrives, it's going to draw in trolls like sugar spills attract ants. Trolling is now a profession complete with professional tools. cryptogon.com/?p=20609Software exists which will allow a single person to visit dozens of forums to trumpet whatever propaganda line his employers want him to spread. This sort of work is easy, and very efficient. Thousands or tens of thousands of people with trolling software can multiply themselves by a factor of 50 or more. Everybody with piles of money is doing this. As my link shows, the US government has plenty of money. So does the tiny nation of Israel. Is it any wonder GW sites like Real Climate are inundated with Big Oil spammers and trolls? All newspaper sites are swarming with "libertarian" posters despite them being a real and true 1/2% political party. Fanatical billionaires have lots of money, and the sums involved in hiring forum spammers and trolls are less than pocket change to them. And some of the cranks don't even have to be paid - they're so fanatical they'll do their missionary work for free. A big point is to shout down people with whom you disagree. Another is to muddy a discussion with half-truths and direct lies. On larger forums sometimes the spammers/trolls will settle for pushing comments/facts they don't like to page six where nobody will see them. The fake multiple personalties can also bombard the forum moderators, making such a racket those moderators will throw up their hands and banish the fellow who is so "objectionable" - just to get some peace in their email box. The vote was heavily in favor of keeping the Soapbox, but you may eventually have to make some changes. Perhaps allow only the oldest "old timers" here to start threads. Possibly make new guys wait for several weeks or months before they're allowed to post on the Soapbox. Finally, you may have to grow a "mean streak" - like in three strikes and you're forever banned from the Soapbox.

good proposition, but it just won't work, eventually, they will dig up a four year's old thread to say what they want to say,the buggers.

OK; I will. I dragged out my suit; it's a vintage pinstriped double-breaster (I am generally partial to two) which may be older than I (and arguably less saggy). Do I digress? Nothing new under the sun.
