Hi all,
A a side effect of the senna seaches I just did, I find I have a LOT of Hyptis suaveloens seed, enough to actually contemplate planting it (while I have found seeds of this before from time to time, they have been on the order of 1-2 per every 40-50 or so bags not enought to really seriosly plant out a crop I am so bad at germinating (I have never had great luck growing members of the mint family from seed) In fact I think I have only ever gotten one to germinate once, and that was years ago, when my basemet grow table still worked. This stuff however had something on the order of 100-200 seeds per bag for a total of at least a thousand, plenty to get a few dozen good plants) so given this, now I move on to the next matter, does anyone have any experiance with what to DO with this herb once you grow it. I've been on the web and there seem to be two alternate tradtions being listed, one South American/Native american, one Asian. The South American advocating sites seem to focus on using the seeds which are apparantly used to make some sort of drink (which I would imagine is similar to the basil seed drinks popular in Asia). Native Seed/SEARCH also mentions using the seed liquid as a treatment for eye complaints. The Asian based sites, however seem to mostly focus on using the plants for varios medicinal uses, as well as an insect repellent (from the one I grew, I can certinaly confrim that the plant is smelly enough for that, it smells VERY stongly of menthol (Vics Vapo-rub strong). While I am sure both listings are fully accurate, if there is anyone out there who has actually used the stuff and can give me a few pointers, it would be appreciated.
