I think this week-end will be the official start of the season. Tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants have been dribbling in, but I'll not be surprised if there is a glut of them now. Well, between them and the zukes, ratatouille-ville, here we come!

Steve, ratatouille freezes surprisingly well, in case you didn't know. It gets a bit soft and soupy, but still darn good.
I doubt I'm going to get eggplant this year, which is a bummer because it has turned out to be so popular we planted extra. But it got seriously stunted for the first couple months of its life. Zukes we are finally getting. Tomatoes still not ripe. Damn, all this stuff is late for us. They all had a really bad start.

Guess who doesn't have a freezer. Being vaguely a zoologist and mildly interested in tanning furs and skins, I just happened to have two primo skunks in my freezer when the Great Wall Street Rip-Off Meltdown hit. As it became obvious that I couldn't paddle fast enough to avoid going over the Financial Falls and my home was foreclosed, having no place to relocate the (aged, crappy) freezer, I admit to having pulled the plug, leaving the skunks, several snakes, and various foodstuffs to ferment.
I am a bad man, I know, in that I didn't surrender my home in perfect condition to the bank. Only the good die young; I expect to live to a very "ripe" old age.
Maybe I'll can some ratatouille.

/me offers to beat steev with a big stick, chains, iron bars, and a leather whip for being a bad man. I will follow up by throwing leaf lettuce at Holly.
somebody says "why throw leaf lettuce at Holly"?
and I reply "See, I told you nobody cared if I beat steev."

I care! Damn, that's harsh! All I did was let them take my stinking house.

On a more apropos note, I've got six or more varieties of eggplant in imminent maturity of fruit; life is good!
Harvested more tomatoes today than we will eat in a week; yee-ha!
Two kinds of tomatillos are harvested; yummers!
Chiles and peppers are ripening; it's all so gratifying.
