I have had a little patch of Cal Red onions that I have been experimenting with and noticed this morning that the flower heads of some were producing topsets/bulblets. This is the first time I have seen it, is it common for this variety? They have not crossed with any topsetting onions because I have only just started growing walking onions and those have not started flowering yet.

Ive grown my own line of California red for 20 years and yes it was common for it to produce those topsets, then one single plant produced this which is different again - alanbishop.proboards.com/thread/6200/mutant-onion the next generation is again is doing the same at the moment
