We finally got a freezer and I am wanting to freeze any seeds that I don't use this year. Is there anything I need to do before I put them in? Do I need to worry about frost bite or anything?

Just make sure they are properly dry, otherwise freezing kills them. I live in a dryish climate so seeds seem to dry enough to cope with freezing. I pack them in ziplock bags once ready.

After drying I just seal them up good. I use pop bottles a lot for big things like beans and corn and sip lock bags for small things. It isn't especially dry here in Indiana so I was a little afraid they might not get dry enough but tested some the first time I did it by freezing a couple weeks and then germ testing. Came out fine so I froze the rest. I don't have space to store in the freezer, I just freeze in batches to kill critters. I use the whack it with a hammer test for dryness.

Thanks for the help guys. I would think they are dry enough. I was thinking I would leave them in the bags/packets and then put the in jars.

I freeze most of my seed and like Ray our climate is also great for getting seed crispy dry, freezing great for short lived seed like parsnip.
