I know it is sh2; that I could see on the bags. I had planned to seed my next bed next week but I suppose I should wait 2 weeks and hopefully will be safe. I assume theirs will grow like mad and should not be later than mine. I think the corn I already have up should make it ahead of theirs for pollinating hopefully. Any suggestions? Its always difficult to predict the cross pollination between two patchs of corns. Two years ago my patch of 40 white sweet corns suse was very close (10 meters) to a field of several hectares of field corns. They tassel nearly at the same date. So I waited a huge xenia effect... And I was really surprised by the low contamination (less of 5% of yellow kernels). Probably thanks to the wind direction... so keep hope

I have already grown the following cultivars blue banana, jumbo banana, gros jaune de paris, galeux d'eysines, rouge vif d'etampes, blue of hungaria and among them galeux d'eysines is most flavourfull and the one with the most colored flesh One problem it isn't good for long storage Here there's nearly no pest on Cucurbita maxima except powdery mildew at the end of the saison But Galeux d'Eysines is not hard shelled and its very easy to cut and peel it. Blue Banana is a very very very hard shelled and it becomes dangerous to cut it with a sharp knife. Attachments:

concerning earliness in europe, the new cultivars are classified as very early, early, main saison for an example but in french www.marionnet.com/asperge.htmIn spring 2010 I have planted the cv Lima A photo of my patch of asparagus this month Attachments:

Cucurbita moschata Yokohama and Sucrine du Berry I haven't grown these cultivars so I hope a sunny summer this year because the fresh and humid summer of belgium is not very good for moschata
a light frost is forecast in the morning of next sunday so i wait to plant the seedlings outside

Of course the sample is too small to have a clear understanding of the interaction. Its just a first observation of three differents phenotypes from this cross.
Only one fruit per plant.
May be more results at the end of this year, 46 seeds sowed in april and 42 have germinated...

Crossing a banana squash with a spherical-flat squash All F1 progeny had nearly spherical fruits Last year I have obtained 15 fruits of the F2 generation: 2banana shaped 10 spherical shaped 3 spherical-flat shaped Its seems regulate by a codominance of shape gene
Other advises? other experiments?

My goal is to introduce several endosperm mutant genes (ae, wx, su, se, sh2) and several anthocyanidin synthesis genes (cyanidin and pelargonidin and a maximum of regulator genes of the anthocyanin pathway). Then selected for red extra sweet viable kernels and presence of red pigments in all tissues.
sh2 gene is problematic as its tightly linked to a1 (anthocyanin less 1) in majority of sh2 supersweet inbreeds. Does anybody know an exception sh2A1?
some references signals that Mirai corn have the genotype susesh2. Does anybody have more info about Mirai genotype?
Finaly I have found Double Red at an american dealer that send his merchandises outside America.

Hi all
I'm a new member I lives in Western Europe and I'm interested about breeding of Sweet corn and Cucurbita maxima.
Two year ago I had crossed a black mexican with ae (amylose extender) wx (waxy) line. Then had selected the sweet kernel in the F2 segregation. And now I will be interested to introduce new genes of anthocyanin synthesis so I search sweet corn like ruby queen, double red,... but in europe it seems really difficult to find these lines.
Have you got an idea for me? Thanks Mayz
