this year I did a trial for best adapted eggplants in my garden. Really unexpected I have quite a god crop out of these. At least 5 different varieties set fruit and all the others make it to bloom... This is really unusual for open field conditions in northern germany. I planted them on the 1st of june as very small (max. 10 cm) plants and they make it. I thought where will in best condition only 1 fruit, so that would have been easy to choose. Any idea how to plan selection for next year? sure I will save seeds from all of them, but this will be too much for next year. There are types from long big ones to small round ones, normaly I would choose the biggest, but what if these smaller ones are better adapted in "normal" years? I need a plan how to save as much diversity as possible but same time do selection for bigger fruits... Any suggestions?

I just had an idea... in my garden there is only one cucumber until now, which I would like to use for seeds same time I`d like to eat it so I am in a dilemma.... I thought when I cut it into 2 pieces one still on the plant one for me...I can have both I am pretty sure it will rot and not produce seeds, but maybe not...? Has anybody tried this before? or an idea...

Hazels are native over here, and I've even seen them in Sweden, and walnuts do grow over here too with no problems, but pistachios in a colder climate? Really? Never heard about that! I thought they needed a warmer climate... all I know is that pistachios need hot summer and dry winter, they are surprisingly hard if winter is dry. my climate is cool in summer and wet in winter thats why I can`t grow them here. even if they survive winter they probably won`t set fruits...

What happened to your Basil hybrid? Do you have already pictures taken this year? I am curious about it. I just planted a lot of different basil types from different sources into my garden to test and maybe cross for a better adapted type. Most of them are Ocimum basilicum, but some are O. x citriodorum.

Did anyone grow Long island Northern Okra Blend? Information on their website is old. I am curious about their progress.

I searched seeds via www.agbase.com and found dominion seed house in Canada. They have OAC Garroy all I know the only seed source for this variety from Guelph University. GRIN has also a lot of peanuts, PI 355982 is the source OAC Garroy is selected from, so maybe it`s worth a try. I tried to order it but they won`t send to non official person, is it the same to US Citizen? ( I am in Germany)

What happened to this project? Is there an outcome? I Would be really interessted in to hear about. I try to select my best late blight tolerant plants since 3 years out of a mass cross with some progress, but maybe it is only luck and late blight will hit me next season, canĀ“t tell. So please let us know!

it`s my third year to find a source for Georgia Jet and other northern suitable sweet potatoes, and I am still looking for... does anybody know a company or person willing to send sweet potatoes especially Georgia Jet to Germany? I guess a bulb (is it a bulb?) would be best, but i am willing to take the risk with slips... I tried Maple Farm (as the specialist ) but they won`t ship.... any suggest? Thanks a lot!
I am also looking for short season peanut varieties. Owen from annapolisseeds will send me some, but are there other cultivars? read about OC Garroy and two other...but couldn`t find any source
