Just like cockatoos that got into my watermelons a few days ago and ate the lot. At least we don't have burrowing animals that eat our vegetables, I would hate to have them.

Here is a Google image of my main farm (I also grow on a few local empty houseblocks. Only half is under cultivation because I just can't do it all myself, but I am slowly expanding and this pic is not up to date.

Our current heatwave over the past two weeks has destroyed most of my crops. The only ones to survive are anything I have under shadecloth row covers, and some that love the heat like capsicums, snake beans and peanuts. Not looking good for the rest of the summer either. The next week is forecast to be in the 40sC with Friday at 47 degrees (117F).
Looks like I will be shelling out for a heap more shadecloth over the next year if global warming is going to keep giving us hotter than hell summers.

As far as I know I don't get many sales to vegans, most of my sales at markets seem to be to permies, who also have animals to eat. They appreciate vegetables that have been selected for home growers and prefer to buy seeds from small seed sellers. The few vegans I know don't grow their own food, even those who have gardens and are capable.

Chinese style pickling melons fit your melon description though they don't get quite as sweet as the usual ones. I don't bother growing them any more as I don't think they are particularly good for either use, though they are passable. Butternut squashes make very good zucchini when young and my favourite mature sweet squash. Tromboncino are well known for being duel purpose but the others are just as good. I really don't like delicatas, I don't find them any sweeter than moschatas.

With the limited range of vegetable varieties available here I would have thought that there was nothing that an overseas buyer would find interesting enough to want. If you want something shipped from here I would be happy to purchase it and ship for repayment of the costs.

I buy from some of the companies mentioned here and have been very happy, but your list should mention those who do not post internationally to avoid disappointment. I hate going to a new seller and seeing seeds thinks I would love to purchase, spend time going through the list and placing items in the cart, then find out they won't post to me after all that.

I have tried to grow I.costata a few times with no success. If they germinate I can often get them to around 10cm then they die off. They are just too temperamental for my patience at this time.

Hey Bill, two of my Arrachacha plants are flowering for the first time ever. Do they set seed easily? Are they self fertile? I hope so as I only have one variety.

Damn it, I am not tech minded when it comes to this sort of thing. I can't find anything that is causing these problems. Maybe this is not something I am meant to do.

That's odd, I would have thought that if the user is not already a member then the name would be free.

Ok, so I have been reading the posts here to decide on whether to go ahead with the new growing and breeding forum. I really don't think OSSI is going to get a new forum up in the near, or even the forseeable future with the work they already have on their plate so I have gone ahead and fixed the problem with the forum I have made (I hope) by changing the platform. I am still tweaking it but if you want to check it out and make an account to see if it fits, and make recommendations, go ahead: www.foodgardenproject.comWith some new members who have offered to become moderators/administrators I hope we won't have the worries that we have here. Still not sure if I am able to move over any info but I am sure it will quickly build up anyway with interest.
