we had a few nights down to 19F to 17F but then it rained and most of the snow is gone again, then last night and this morning and today it is snowing again.
we have some flowering early bulb irises up and out. showing some early color, but they are under the snow now.
in a few days we'll be back to 40-50F and melt all of this again.

very mixed weather recently. from well below freezing up to 65F. some flowers will be retreating already and others just showing up (the earliest daffodils should be out in a few more days). glad to have more rains than ice recently. the rivers are low so this will help recharge the ground for spring/summer. currently about to get rained on again for a day or two.

Snowed today for the last time, 50s by Easter and 60s by mid next week. Still feet of snow on the garden. Liar, liar pants on fire ... we had five inches of snow last week a week after seventie and eighties F. As I type this majority of the next ten days are in teh 40s with hard 26 degree freezes at night. I have not uncovered my roses yet as temp. in the twenties will kill, as I found out the hard way in the past. Potatoes need ground temp. above 45 so plantin potatoes would be a fools folly. In Minnesota such weather is not abnormal, but then again sub-tropical temps. with highs in 90s and dew points of 75 degrees are not abnormal either. Minnesota has never has sub-zero weather in May but the record in April is -22 F. I prefer what we have now to the tropical alternate.

it is still cool here some nights, but so far no more frosts are in the forecast for the next week, so i think my pea and bean sprouts will be ok even if the beans are slightly challenged by lower temperatures.
always a risk those may not make it. the peas will be ok.
not much rain here recently (a light sprinkle this morning was not enough) and i've had to water to make sure the seeds i planted would sprout.

the forecast for next week has three days in a row of over 88F. no rains for quite some time. we had our plumbing blow out last week too so that was required to be repaired or we'd have no gardens this season.

Twenty degrees above average and very, very dry. Not looking good as the drought can come back in the blink of an eye.

it is sad to see but pretty much the same here, no rains for weeks, very hot the last week, but at last temperatures are moderating. i should be able to finish planting the gardens inside the fence today and tomorrow. keeping everything watered for sprouting then takes up more and more time.
we did have a momentary chance of rain in the forecast yesterday afternoon but that didn't even appear to be possible. our next chance of rain in the forecast is for this coming Saturday (almost a week from now). one of the large drainage ditches that goes through our property is running, but very low. i've not seen it go dry before.
i'm glad our well is pretty deep, but i also don't want to stress it too much during times like this as i don't want it to pull water from the direction of the septic drain field (which is a ways down flow from the well so it should be ok, but i still don't want to cause possible problems).
