Painfully slow. I guess everybody is really busy.
I do miss seeing everyone here though.

Too much going on to be inside on the computer. Animals to take care of, gardens to be planted, and in southern Indiana mushrooms to be hunted this time of the year. With that new baby, I'm surprised Clark has any free time. Hope all is going well with that little bundle of joy.

It's been summer here, in our part of Canada. Unbelievable weather for mid-April, 24C +, which is close to 80F. I built my greenhouse tunnels over the weekend, and I was sweatin' in the sun. It is incredible!! Doesn't feel like I will need them, but the temperature will surely drop at some point. Our last frost day is near the end of May to early June, but this weather is really tempting to start planting. Can't stay inside when it is so nice out!!
It's hard with a newborn to get out sometimes. Try bringing him outside to sleep in a bassinet while you're out. The fresh air is great for him, as long as he is not in the sun. My eldest was a spring baby, and I took her out all the time, just so I could get out. Once they could sit up and play with toys, I would spread a blanket out on the lawn, under an umbrella or a tree, and let them go. Mind you, once they start crawling, it's a bit trickier!!! But he's got a ways to go there!

this is the forum with the highest percentage of real farmers, and a lot of the regulars are in that category...so it is normal to see the things slow down. If it was not for the snow, I would be in the garden too, but at least I have many plants started...
Sammy, the ground did not freeze. Is it time to get the raspberries?

Hey Mike. I was just out looking around outside, and was thinking about starting to dig some of them up. I'll pot them up, and put them aside when I do. I might get to them this week, I'll let you know. They are starting to leaf out too. Amazing weather! And they just got a foot of snow out in Alberta!! Hope that doesn't come our way!

It is in the high 70's here this week. Just 10 days ago, it was snowing. I have been outside weeding and admiring my daffs.

It was increadibly beautiful out today and so I spent my day working on planting sweet corn, digging up potatoes just to reassure myself that they didn't rot, planting new potatoes, onions, oca tubers and some other things. Worked in the worm house a bit, and had a Hometown Competitiveness leadership meeting to attend.
Things will pick up on this site again soon when everyone has a break, they always do. I agree with mike, I would say of all the sites we have probably the highest percentage of devoted market farmers and seed growers as well as people involved in other areas of agriculture, so that when spring rolls around, everyone has something going on.
But, remember, for this lack in posting, just imagine all the hard work going on everywhere in preserving and creating new varieties and discovering new knowledge which will increase posting, sharing, and trading this fall and winter when theres not so much going on, it really is a beautiful thing!

Bunkie: Our place looked the same when I got up on Sturday. Freaked me, until I checked the hoop houses and starting chambers. Inside them the attitude was "snow? what snow?", which settled me down immediately. Still putting the heat on in both, and will do so until the 10th of May, even though latest I've seen frost here is the 4th. Belt and suspenders. Cheers Dan

Mike, where did you get 300 from?
I don't have that many, even with all the help from the birds! Closer to 20, maybe 30! Haven't dug anything up yet, but soon, soon. Supposed to be a fairly decent weekend, so we'll have to see.
Sure hope we don't get any more snow, everything is leafing out, my crabapple tree is almost in flower. I'd hate for it all to get frost bit. After the winter we had, that would not be very fair!!
