Just wanted to say Hi! I just found this site from a link on the Washington County Farmers Market site. We will be moving to our 5 acres in Pekin Indiana sometime within the next month. Looking forward to learning lots from everyone here.

So, you are a luccky person! You will be the first to get everything from Alan. We are a bit jealous, we would all love to be his neighbours But hey, You could not find a better bunch of people. Welcome. Tell us what interests you in gardening, what you would like to grow, and many here will step in to send you wonderful and rare seeds, tell you how to grow some weird things, like orflo, from Belgium, who grows and eats delicacies you could even hardly find in a dictionnary ( we love you Frank!), and lots of great stuff Alan and others are hybridising, creating, whatever is your favorite word. I am taking this occasion to offer you my help, my seeds are yours for the asking, go for it, you can ask for them here or in a pm, we are very glad to welcome you aboard. We share seeds for free here, it is a way to create great friendships...and you have a friend in Canada if you want to. Welcome aboard, enjoy Michel

I'll just pop in for a minute, and add another Canadian welcome. And as Michel says, we will offer our help if we can, and also our seeds are there for the offering. Ask if you would like any or all that we offer. Cheers, Val / grungy and Dan / grunt

Welcome. I am Karen from Paoli, about 30 minutes from Pekin. Are you from IN, or are you moving in from farther away? Most people on here are seriously into veggies, me, not so much. I have a frozen Snickers fun size bar for breakfast. Don't tell CanadaMike, he is pretty sure Americans are uncvilized pigs. I happen to LIKE my cheese in the form of whiz, and no need to refrigerate the can! Just kidding Mike-I am an uncivilized pig! Though I did put out a garden, I don't do the breeding and serious stuff like most here. There are VERY knowledgable folks here, people who actually are doing, instead of just googling info and then posting it to a forum. Don't be afraid to ask any questions here, you will get kind answers. I am more into the sweet stuff, strawberries, serviceberries, and ornamentals. If you are into flower gardening, let me know. I do have a few things I need to find homes for...could you use any dayliles? I have some that are going to have to go for a new herb garden. Welcome.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! Karen, we currently rent a house in New Albany Indiana, so not too far away. We are just waiting for everything to be done with our house so we can move...the weather is not cooperating! I actually love to grow anything that will grow. I do not know a thing about breeding and hybridizing..is that a word? I like to know where the food I feed my kids comes from, so we will eventually have a HUGE garden. I have been spending a ton of time here just reading and learning, everyone here seems to really be knowlegeable. Thanks again for the welcome!

Sorry I missed this thread friend! Welcome to Pekin!
I really hope and believe you will like it here, it need some work, but all towns do, all we can do is try our hardes.
And also welcome to Homegrown Goodness! I know you'll love it here.
Where at in/around Pekin are you moving may I ask?
You should definetly stop by the farm this year sometime and check things out, I'd love to meet you and share my knowledge and seeds with you.
If your interested in produce for the summer let me know, we have a great community supported agriculture opporotunity here on the farm!
Nice to meet you again!

The forum is a bit slow at this time, but that is because everyone is so busy! I am having a hard time just trying to keep up with the weeds. Worked for hours today, and feel like I didn't even make a dent in it. This is the time of year when there are a million things to do, and they all need to be done NOW. If you ever get by this way, stop by. I am easy to find, just 2 miles from the Paoli square, on hwy 150 West. Like I said, I am more into the ornamentals, but maybe I have something you would like. And I really do need to dig up some daylilies.

Hi Alan! We are right on the Pekin Salem border...the mail carriers apparently drew straws to decide what city our address would be in LOL The neighbors to one side are in Pekin, the neighbors on the other side are in Salem. I did see your sign going down 60 today, and we will be about 7 miles from you, down Motsinger to South Boston Pekin Rd. We got the wonderful news today that our septic is buried, so just about 2 more weeks till we get the keys and move. After that I will be so busy I won't be able to take a breath probably, but it will be soooo worth it! Karen, I would Love the daylilies, but have no idea when I would be up your way.

I would be happy to bring them to you (can you tell I am desperate to get rid of these?). I get to Pekin once in a while, because I have two friends who live in that thriving metropolis. Maybe Alan wouldn't mind if I dropped them off at his place and you could pick them up there, then you could meet him and see what all he has going on at his farm. Dayliles are just about impossible to kill, so even bareroot they would be fine for a while. I have probably 75 or more, mostly in pinks and purple shades. I don't do yellow or orange. Let me know if you would like them. Sorry to be a pest about it, but I really would like to get that area dug up. Alan, how about you? Want something else to plant? Dayliles are edible, after all. Although I have read that they give some folks reason to spend time in the bathroon.
