CFF, Thank you so much for these wonderful collards!
As weird as it sounds I had never been a big fan of collards (herasy, I know, for someone who loves cabbages and brassicas and greens of all types), I now chalk that up to Vates and Southern curled collards, which are, when compared to Haynes aquisition of yellow cabbage collards, quite inferior.
We have been feasting on these terrific collards and ham-hocs for two days now, and some will be going out with this weeks CSA and also to Saturdays farmers market, where at first, untill tasted they will be looked at with scrutinity by northerners but after tasting will be in high demand, I can promise you!
Another standout has been the Green Glaze collards, not highly productive (I get the impression they are highly inbreed and need some selection and breeding work done) they are indeed nearly as terrific as the yellow cabbage collards.
I will be producing seed of both crops next spring as well as various crosses between the two and with other brassicas!
