Just wanted to give and get some A.D. updates.
My "pure" seed strain (the original cross plus some new varieties) was very variable this year, I planted roughly one lb early in the season selecting for cool soil tolerance and got about 75% germination in that patch, grown on a sunny, south facing slop and fertilized with cow manure, it actually did suprisingly well, even given the constant raids by raccons this year. The corn is now drying int he field (though we have eaten small ears, which were very nice, similar in taste to golden bantam, with everything from bi-color yellow/white, to shades of purple, blue, red, and pink). I'll be selecting for mid to larger sized ears, good coloration, strong and healthy plants, and many other personally biased traits!
The cross between A.D. and Silver king worked out pretty well also, I can report with some certainty that both Yellow and Purple are highly dominant in corn and do "fight" with one another to produce green, three lines will be saved from this particular cross. The line which uses the original A.D. plants as mothers and a line which used a couple of Silver King plants as mother plants, but more importantly a strange oddity which I will get a picture of shortly.
This wonderful looking thing is a 6 foot tall plant bearing three ears (and one secondary, but still large ear) that are freaking huge! These things look like NK199 on sterioids, just massive girth and length, a small peel-back of husk revealed..........pinks, stripes, purples, reds, maroons, whites, yellows and.....wait for it.....wait for it.......GREEN! The purple and yellow expressing together! I wasn't even looking for it and found it! By the way, green will be segregated out from those ears and worked on seprately and giben the working name......well one of two, not decided yet........Kryptonite or Audrey III!
I will keep you updated and get pics once it dries down!
Any updates guys?
