Here is a picture of 2 Frieland Mischerino melons that I picked today. The mellow as the yellow ripening gene, so it is easy to spot. It is a delicious melon from GermaNY The largest is 800 grams, or 1 pound 12 ounces Once cut: And this is my niece Sophie and me with half a 14.5 pounds ORANGEGLO watermelon I could not go in the patch to self or cross the melons and watermelon, except for one Lunéville. The watermelons I selfed ( Alan's mix) aborted. I selfed 2 flowers, one was a perfect flower, but nothing came out of it and no way I was going back there with all that downy mildew around. I played in the other patch and everything died, that was enough for me. . I wonder if the plants were not reacting on the severe conditions by refusing to let more fruits come up. It is only in the last 2 days I have seen new baby melons/watermelons on the plants. They are too late of course.

Sophie is quite the fashion plate Uncle Mike. Her outfit matches the Orangeglo Is that variety of melon as tasty as it is rumoured to be??

I would say yes, acccording to Sophie and her mom. I am not a huge fanatic of watermelons. It is not the best year for any melon or watermelon. I have had sweeter, but there is nothing the plant can do without sun. We've only had it this week. So I am sure it can be sweeter in a good year, but it is scrumptious as it is, better than storebought for sure...
