Here are 2 pictures of the 4.3 pounds of fruits of my huge C.Pepo hybrid plant, a SWEET DUMPLING/THELMA SANDERS HYBRID.
If you have read my posts the plant was a massive monster with huge leaves, the size of big pumpkin leaves. If the harvest, on the other side, is disappointing, consider this: my 5 other plants of c.pepo, together, will give me about the same harvest. Apart from the zukes, c.pepo did nothing this year in my area, other growers, even experienced commercial ones, have had the same abysmal harvest.
If it wasn't for Elizabeth ( Lav) and her marvelous MUSQUÉE DE PROVENCE squash, which will give me an easy 60-70 pounds of fruit in 2 hills, in fact probably quite more once I have located all the fruits hiden everywhere . , the year would be a total loss.
Lav, my dear, next time tell me when you send me a monster like that ;D ;D ;D it took over the whole kitchen garden and now I have to go through the cedar hedges to locate whatever is on the other side of them. They are in 3 patches or corn, my peppers, my tomatoes, my eggplants, my lettuces, my swiss chard, my potatoes, my sweet potatoes, my strawberries and my herbs. all in different places in the garden.
Should I include, also, all over my coveted weeds? There is a patch of weeds that are 4 feet high in between my strawberies and my sweet potatoes. Your squash is ruining my weeds . I am sure to find fruits there, the animal is sooooo prolific. The butternut shaped one ( I had 2, one was eaten by an animal) is very big and dark green, I hope it will mature in time. I checked on GRIN-USA pictures of accessions, and it is full of squashes, moschatas, that are giving fruits in the 2 forms. So it might not be partial pollination.
It would be easy to check, but I don't want to go in any patch unless we get a dry spell. I had my lesson this year and I prefer prudence, although moschatas all look perfectly healthy and unaffected by diseases.
On both picture, you can see the plant is pumping out fruits of the 2 parent phenotypes, 3 are very Thelma like and one is close to a Sweet Dumpling. It vined more like a SD, an in-between form of bush and pure vining, while TS gets all over the place, easily extending well over 10-15 feet.
And here are two pictures of my daily harvest. I am making salsa and Seckel pear syrup... AMERICAN GARDENER, THESE PICS ARE ESPECIALLY FOR YOU. HERE ARE YOUR TRIAL PEPPERS. So, you have a picture now ;D!!
