I picked up an Aurora Pepper at the local college plant sale. I thought the bicolor foliage looked pretty cool. It's flowering now. The purple flowers are great. Such a nice color. ;D
What other varieties have flowers that are not white?

Is the Hungarian Black a hot pepper or sweet.

I've only eaten a couple so far, but I'd say mildly hot - it looks like a deep aubergine jalapeno. I got the seed from Johno.

Flower Power,
Purple flowered varieties I have grown include Black Prince, Tri-Fetti, Black Pearl and Largo Purple. There are many others I haven't grown. The Tri-Fetti and Black Pearl are particularly beautiful IMO.

Thanks everyone. I didn't think there were that many. I will have to take a look at some of them. The other ornamental I found was Candlelight. The college got all of their seeds from SSE. So I picked up a few of the Tolli's Sweet Italian (Red) also.
I guess the other little un-named pepper I have is not Black Pearl. Mine has a white flower. The pepper is round like a marble. It starts out cream/white, to purple, to red. I have to find the pics from last yr.
They had some interesting choices on the maters. Offhand, I remember Brandywine (Sudduths), Amana Orange, Green Zebra, Striped Caverns, Roma, Aunt ruby's German Green and Fuzzy Peach. They had no red cherry tomatoes at all. Now, the students are supposed to be making money for the scholarship fund. The choices seem odd, since you want to sell alot of plants.

I grew the black hungarian a couple of years ago. It was a very pretty and very productive plant with a nice purple hue and beautiful purple flowers. The peppers were identical twins for Jalapeno peppers except for the purple coloration, flavor was almost identical. I would definetly give it a go again and will probably do so sometime in the next few years.

I started with 12 red rocoto seedlings...down to 2 scrawny ones. I have my mom starting the remaining seeds I have for them. Maybe she'll have better luck.
