I'm attempting to grow a couple of "hedgerows" of 'Golden Goddess' for privacy screens on both sides of my front yard (luckily, the back is fenced in). So far, so good. Based on what several bamboo gurus that live in hot zones have told me, this is one of the few clumping bamboos that can really thrive in my climate. I just planted them last fall, and even though it was a brutal winter here (relatively speaking), the plants seem to be doing fine.

Welcome Suze Ah, yes. One of several variations of type Bambusa multiplex. This one is rated to handle 18 degrees F before experiencing any leaf kill. Its culms can handle around 10f or so, before they too will be put down. The root system is still able to survive even lower around 0 F if properly mulched; maybe even lower. Expect maximum size to be around twelve feet tall, and about half a inch diameter. Mature footprint should be around six feet or so, depending on how well and often you manicure it. This is a good choice for your area, as it is a very functional bamboo. It stays relatively behaved, and fills in quite nice; providing a dense screen. If given some fert. and extra water here and there, it will always look great. Good luck with them.

Thanks for the additional information re hardiness and mature size.
I did not know they would get quite that tall, but that's fine by me.
