I just spoke w/ Steve. We're meeting tomorrow afternoon to do the trade. He says he has plenty of room in his pickup so I'll dig as much as I can stand to and send it your way.

Made the trade. Damn, that's a lot of jackfruit plants. I'm bound and determined to force them to make some yucky fruit for me. The bamboo looked a bit wilted as we took it out of our car so you may want to have Steve water it before the long trip home. I hope that it grows for you. I dug a tall and a short one and spared as many roots as I was able. I think you have some pretty good root sections to work with, but I'm totally ignorant regarding bamboo so I could be wrong. You'll definitely want to re pot it when you get it. Good luck with it and thanks for the crazy plants.

Glad we finally got our trade done!
The most important thing about transplanting the Jackfruit trees is to be careful not to break the taproot. My guess is that you should remove them from the pots when they are just dry enough to come out easily.

OK, here goes a stupid question. What is Jackfruit? I am going to be really embarrased if it is obvious.

Don't be embarrassed - it is in no way obvious. I found them at a Mexican fruit stand at the Dallas farmers market about a year and a half ago, and it was so unusual I had to buy one and see what it was. It was a dollar a pound, and the one I bought weighed 14 pounds. The guys I bought it from called it "Jaca." (yah-ka.) I had to look it up when I got home, and the following web site was most informative: www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/jackfruit_ars.html
