I'm hoping to grow Sweet Annie, Artemisia annua this year. I wouldn't mind growing absinthium or whatever sometime too, the seeds I had for that one didn't germinate.

I just ordered A absinthum last night from Companion Plants. I need to be stopped. Yesterday I was cleaning out the greenhouse, found a trunk full of seeds, some dating back to 2003. I pitched them, they haven't been properly stored, and I really don't have the space to sow seeds that may not germinate. Honestly, I don't have the space to sow all of the seeds I have that are good. Got my order from Nichols last week, today I got my order from JL Hudson, and I have ordered tons of plants from Seneca Hill, North Creek, Bluebird. Most of it is wholesale for my business, but I really am out of control. Is there a 12 step program out there for us???

Just to save you all that disappointment of having to throw a boat load of seeds away next year I can PM you my address for your leftovers now ;D I just ordered A absinthum last night from Companion Plants. From 2003 and you pitched them?! I would have at least pitched them on a compost pile...
I tried germinating a whole pack of Wormwood last year and got nada... Does anyone know the secret method?

Yeah, it's strange that everyone is have trouble germinating them. I think the person I got mine from got them from Baker Creek. Maybe that has something to do with it? I just started Artemisia vulgaris, mugwort seeds and got good germination.. so maybe just a bad batch of seed?

I tried to start them inside w/ no luck. I put some into my beds and they started sprouting 2-3 weeks later. They're actually still alive now. If anyone wants seed, I have leftovers from BC 2007. Does anyone actually distill the stuff?

It's still illegal in the US I believe. It is available in Europe. The studies show that quality absinthe is not any more dangerous that reg booze. Back in the day people added copper sulphate to crappy absinthe for artificial green color....poison.
I saw a special on it last night. If one made moonshine, absinthe wouldn't be hard to make. It starts as neutral spirits that has absinthium, green anise, and somthing else in it. Its steeped for a few days and redistilled. Then a huge "teabag" of herbal coloring agents is put in to color it before bottling.
Warning: distillation of alchohol is illegal without proper permits. Not advised.
