Today is my Mom's birthday, and my siblings and I bought her an outfit, and two lavender plants. (they were really affordable at 2.98 a pot). I love lavender and my Mom started growing it after I told her that in some of the earth bound religions of ancient times they planted lavender for luck. Its also supposed to be a very strong protection herb. Plus...You can't beat that smell...lol.

Blue used to say lavender smells like fussy old ladies, but I snuck some into a bath oil I sent her for Christmas, and she likes it sometimes, now. At least, that's what she told me... ;D

Check this out... if you click on the Taste of America link on this lavender site, you'll see the episode where the show went to the Lavender Festival in Sequim. My husband's really good friend Alicia Hoyt is the woman who makes the shrimp towards the end.www.lavenderfestival.com/

No, I think it was the Turkey roast that had to vacate in order for you to ship me some Lavenderalia.... See folks, there was this box that arrived from Lav's house all wrapped up pretty for Christmas..well my dog and cat kept hanging out under the Tree, sniffing and sniffing at just this one box?? Not knowing Lav except on the internet, this was kinda making me a tad nervous...But it turned out that she had shipped my gift in the strongest box she could find. That being a box for shipping a Christmas turkey, LOL.
Oh and Kimi, Great Choice for a Birthday Gift! One can NEVER have enough plants!!! I hope Your Mother Had a Wonderful Day

Kimi-I was wondering how your mom's lavender did. I have planted several over the years, and they have never came back, until this year. I planted a Grosso along with a couple others-Grosso is the only one that lived, so I am sticking with it. Funny thing is, it looked good all winter, no real difference from its appearance in summer. I am trying some cuttings, though I have never had much luck with that either. If they take I'll get you some if you would like. Karen
I just noticed the date that you posted this, Mar 29 is my husbands BD too.

I tried everything to get more varieties to grow for me

Yep, I've tried several different ones, the Grosso is still looking really good, and I have managed to root some cuttings. Our problem here is more winter wet than anything. The temps aren't that cold, but rain in winter is not good.
