So beauty is in the eye of the beholder, correct?? ;D
Anyone grow this before? Tips on germination, and transplanting would be much appreciated. I have read Louise Riotte's tips on Celeriac as well as Gertrude B. Foster's... But I'm open to other ideas, TY
Moonlily, have you started yours yet?? I meant to start mine today. Guess I had best go do that now...

I am starting mine today as the Stella natura biodynamic planting calendar says it is a good time to do celery and celariac.
Have never grown celariac before but have eaten it and it is good. I am assuming it is grown like celery and parsley.

Good time for planting huh? Thanks Ohio...I got goofing around online last night with Flowerpower and a Wannabee Yankee, and forgot to plant the seeds. I'm gonna do it today, Honest!! I was rather taken aback by Richter's suggestion that Leaf Celery should be started from seed indoors? I had assumed that I could just through down some seed in the herb bed and it would grow, but apparently not so? Mebbe I'll attempt it both ways and see which provides healthier plantings.

Blue, I haven't started mine yet and I think I should have already. I would do it today except for this SNOW! I think I will start the seeds in the little cold frame and see how it goes. I still want to grow regular celery, though.

Blue, celery seed is so small that starting it in the groud is very risquy. It takes time too, and the darn things are so small for so long....
I usually start mine in february, so the plants are about 3 months old when I put them in the ground. I don't start any this year, not enough room, but my friend sells some and I will be OK. Celeriac is easier than leaf celery, unless you mean the ones that make no big stalks, like Zwolche Krull, wich can be used like parsley. Regular and abundant water is the key here.
I can't see how starting it from seed in the ground could work here, celery is a mediterranean native and needs a way too long season for us.

Yes Michel, Leaf Celery is exactly what I meant, similar looking to parsley. Not the type with stalks. I can't be bothered to blanch stalks and peel those strings off...I just want the flavour for cooking, and thats in the leaves!
