Discovered this my first year in the business. If you don't have the money to afford those fancy flats and domes and you want to grow something that can handle a bit of rough handling (tomatoes, peppers, tobacco) Save those nifty plastic salad bowls from restraunts (wendys and mcdonalds) fill 'em up with some seed starting mix and plant your seeds about a half inch apart in rows.

Supermarket bakery "clamshells" and rotiserie chicken containers also work very well as starter flats. I like them for starting smaller amounts of seedlings, such as herbs.
