I have a chance to get about 40 old windows at no cost. Just haul them off. Can these be used to build a greenhouse? I have a lot of old brick that I could use a floor.

You bet they can! Are they double glazed? Those make the best sash fro the project.
Right now I have a stack of patio doors (sliding glass) stored away to eventually be made into a lean-to greenhouse on my garden shed. Someday...
I've also made a knock-down mini greenhouse, more like a cold frame, really, that kept lettuce alive through a zone 6 winter this year.

My husband has plans to someday build a greenhouse out of all he windows he has been collecting over the years.
he did make 2 cold frames out of old single paned windows and one has windows so old that he frames have rotted away-not good.

Well I got the windows. Stacked up in back covered by a tarp. Now I can add this to a long list of to do's.
