Anyone tried this 'single serving' sized Spaghetti Squash?
We tried spaghetti squash back in the 80's when it arrived in our local grocery store. Didn't care for it much. But I'm looking at the price of pasta, which is now $2.25 for a 900g bag...And thinking that 2009 might be the year to learn to enjoy spaghetti squash?
But the larger variety would just be a waste around here with only me to eat it. So I recalled seeing this smaller serving sized squash in Vesey's catalogue last year and online at Jung's and Territorial Seed.
Many folks are saying on gardening forums how they like spaghetti squash and are sharing recipes for same. What about this smaller version??

I honestly don't have a clue, but you're interesting me here. I tried spaghetti squash once, and hated it. Mind you, in those days, I was not very open minded and it was served pretty naked. But people ask me for it, and it is true a smaller version, kind of one person meal, looks appealing.

Why does spaghetti squash cost .99/lb and other winter squash are only .69/lb at the store?

Alan brought me a couple ?last year? wow, I can't believe it has been a year already, but I digress. I liked it, my husband tried a little bite of it and said it tasted just like spaghetti but he still wasn't going to eat it and I had to go ahead and cook him 'real' spaghetti. Perhpas as the economy worsens, people will be more open-minded.

I understand what you are saying. I guess it's not really an economical alternative to pasta. Might try them anyway. What do I have to lose? $2.50 for a packet of seeds that would last me for two seasons I'm certain. And if I didn't care for the little beggars, then I'd donate them to the local Foodbank, LOL

we grow spaghetti squash every year. hubby loves it. the deal is you have to put a sauce or gravy-type something on it! it has very little flavor by itself, imo. also, we freeze any leftovers blue. it reconstitutes very well preserving it this way.
