I saw this at a local farm last week. I liked the pointy head. I see it listed as a cauliflower, which I have never grown. Has anyone grown this? Does it taste good? I didn't buy it b/c I don't like broccoli or cauliflower. lol But I think I am gonna try growing it next yr anyway. Too weird not to.

Well, it tastes good...if you like broccoli/cauliflower ;D ;D ;D If you don't like it grow it for fun, if I remember well, it was quite easy to grow, a good fertile soil , a bit of moisture, just about the same as for broccoli of course. The taste was more broccoli like, I have to check but I do believe there are some different coloured varieties

Thanks, Orflo. Broccoli does really well for me here & I never have a problem getting rid of it. I grew Calabrese this yr as a fall crop. Normally I would get side shoots until late November. Not this yr. We got over a ft of heavy, wet snow yesterday & high winds.

While like Frank said, I think there may be a few different varieties around, I don't think there's a difference between Romanesco Broccoli and Romanesco Cauliflower. The taste is somewhere in between, and some people call it a cauliflower and others call it a broccoli, but I think it's really the same plant.

We planted about 150 of these in the garden this year. I have never tried it, but it is growing real well so far.

We grow the Romanesco, the Violetto and a white called di Jesi. Trees and brains, we grow them both. I love brains, everyone else loves trees. The Violetto is by far and away my favorite for flavor. But I would never turn down a Romanesco, it's so Golden Ratio, so Fibonacci numbers. And so good with cheese sauce. I'm harvesting broc and cauli today for tomorrow's CSA. Guess what we're having for dinner. Attachments:

I like the flavor, but must admit to being smitten by the appearance of Romanesco; I'm such a slut for pretty and cool.

Smitten here too! But I do like the flavour as well. I don't grow either cauliflower or broccoli myself though. All that time in the ground then you pick the head and it's gone!

I have a few very small seedlings for the Romanesco at the moment. So I am looking at a fall harvest. Does this variety get side-shoots when you cut the main head? That Violetto is gorgeous, Holly.

FP, Are you going to get brave and eat purple broccoli?? Maybe with green tomatoes on the side? LOL Or just use it as a table centrepiece?
