I really liked Roots Demystified by Kourik: www.robertkourik.com/books/roots.htmlLots of pictures of the root structure of vegetables and information about root growth. And it's available at the Ottawa Library for those nearby. Sounds like an interesting read. I'll check the library. John Weaver's 1927 classic "Root development of vegetable crops." is another very interesting root related text which also includes root illustrations. I think he refers to this one actually though my memory is not what it once was. It is surprising how rivetted (or mabye not so surprising) about learning the intricacies of exploring a root system in soil.
