I received some tomato seed called "Guido" in a trade last year (from whom I do not remember). It was a great tomato ... beefsteak sized, slightly oblate, meaty, red ... one of my absolute favorites.
I neglected to save seed ... had over 85 varities in the ground and did not get this one.
So, have been looking for this mater commercially and have not been able to find it.
Is anyone familiar with Guido and seed availability?
TIA.

Hi Michel,
Yes, it's been a while ... life remains very busy.
Had a successful gardening year despite our drought. Massive tomato grow-out was fun and I found a number of varieties that I really liked. Guido was simply awesome. I think they sent me the seed ... am trying to find my records in the mess that I call my office ...
Did they breed it? I'm looking to put out about 25-30 Guido plants this year. My Farmer's Market folks bought every one I took to market ... and I *do* mean every one. It was a huge hit!
See ya' Sandbar.

Sandbar, Great to see you back. Grunt and Grungy should be able to hook you up with seed.

Hi Sandbar - glad to see you back!
I had a bad tomato year, but Guido did show promise. The plants I gave to my in-laws produced several big ones, though. And all of them were dee-licious.

Hi Johno & FP, been AWOL for a while ... This year was my first year for the Guidos (Val and Dan sent me a bunch of neat varieties). I think I only had six Guidos in the ground. Last day of market, I took about 40 lbs. of Guido along with about 20 other varieties of tomatoes. I had more Guido than any other variety. I told my wife as I picked up the bulging bin of Guidos, "These babys will vanish today." The Guidos were gone in about an hour ... people were jockeying for position behind the current buyer at our stand so that they could get at these things as soon as the buyer was finished with their transaction! Later, I had people coming back that had bought it in previous weeks asking for it. They went away disappointed ... "the early bird gets the worm!" I surely sold well over 100 lbs off those six plants in spite of our drought. Val and Dan, I will look forward to hearing from you! Thanks for a great mater!

Hey Val and Grungy, despite promising myself I wouldn't go on collecting thousands of tomatoes and would end most of my tomato breeding in favor of other crops (other than those in progress and the seeds that you sent my way) I have to request that you put my name in the hat for this one for next season! Thanks for all you do!

Can do Alan, how many seeds would you care for. We package them up in approximate 25 seeds per packet, but if you need more than than we can always put more in your envelope, and be happy to. Cheers, Val and Dan (grungy and grunt)

If you don't mind to send a few more 50 or 60 would be great, that would give me plenty of plants to trial and to also be able to harvest and bulk seed and to also sell some toms at market. Thanks so much friends!

No problem - seeds should be ready for trading/transferring in about 2 weeks.

I look forward to the seeds and growing Guido this year! Thanks for letting me know when to expect them. This year I'm not being to overly picky about what I accept in trade or as a gift, most of what I need to expand my genetic base in this year are corns, beans, brassicas, lettuces, and grains. Anything in those categories would be great, as soon as I get all the tomatoes you sent me last year grown out I'll be requesting some more of those from you.
Thanks for running such a terrific operation guys!

GUIDO sounds like something I would love to try in my modest lil' garden. I only have space for 15 tomato plants along with other veggies so I only need a few seeds to get a start. Hopefully it will do well enough that I can save my own seeds after getting a start. Please let me know where to send a SASE. LarryD
