Wasn't quite sure where to put this? But here seemed appropriate because of the hobby aspect. It's an article about poverty and isolation and how a craft helped raise money and self esteem. www.thestar.com/News/Ideas/article/558726

Very interesting article, Blue.
I read a similiar article in one of the knitting magazines about the quivet sweaters knit by the Inuit. I think they are called Cowichon sweaters.
The Inuit were paid very little and the stores sold them to tourists for very high prices. The stores were taking advantage of them.
The sweaters for the tourists are now being made in China and the Inuit sweaters are being sold in textile art galleries as works of art and the knitters are being referred to as textile artists. Really helps the self esteem.
