I just wanted to take a moment to clarify the Global Moderator status, the basis of my decisions on Global Mods and the future of the Homegrown Goodness Message Board.
Basically I just wanted to clarify that it may seem like we have a lot of mods, particularly based on the small need that we have for mods, but mods and their selection have also been based on other criteria, particularly the criteria for being center points for specific information, future projects, and particular parts of the message boards, I may still yet add another mod or two in the future in order to hash out this system as all the bases aren't yet covered, but the mod position isn't only functional in the form of regulating the board as the status is further reaching than that.
I have tried over the past few months to select mods from a wide range of locations and environments who can also provide specific information about those climates and or can specialize in particular types of agriculture. I know at times it may have seemed that the selection has been random but it has not. In some cases, I particularly selected mods for a reason that seemed to fit their case, in other cases I was looking at the information present and the moderator came to me asking to become more involved, either way the decisions have been made using particular criteria.
For Example:
Plantsnoobin-perennials
CanadaMike-northern gardening/Hip-Gnosis Seed Development co-coordinator/PR Agent
Orflo-European moderator/specialty crops
American Gardener-Seed Collector/bio-Diversity specialist
Grungy-Tomatoes/seed saving
Johno-Southern locations/small holding/gardening
Ottowa Gardener-northern location, innovation in northern gardening
Lavandula Girl-Warm weather co-operator, west coast
Flowerpower-ornamentals, home brewing
ClarkBar-Urban Gardening
In addition to these things, they are also knowledgeable on many other levels and we will figure out their specialties as we go forward and further define them in the future. Of course these mods also do have power over the management of the board and as we move into the future will have more of a say in the direction of the message board and the projects we undertake, but so to shall all other members as we will function as a democracy.
I based my decisions in some of these selections on members who have made it a point to come back to Homegrown Goodness as their home base and several mods were some of the original founding members who first stood by me in this project, without the original base I couldn't otherwise have continued to run this message board or wake up and feel inspired to share what I do, to you Johno, Flower Power, Lavandula Girl, I very much appreciate it! Your awesome. There are others to be named there as well, they know who they are and there is a spot here for them as well if they are interested.
In time I will add some other geographically located moderators/coordinators and their help will be much appreciated.
I chose Canadamike as a senior mod in order to serve as our outreach and development coordinator and because of his reliability in situations where in I am not otherwise available to mange the message board, Mike has done a stellar job, and is much appreciated, he has definitely done much to get the word out there about us and keep the board running smoothly when I am not around. Now that we are a global entity it was somewhat of a necessity to create a mod who could step into my place when I was not available, Mike has been partially responsible for most of our contacts from around the world and has done a good job of expanding our home base with his micro managing skills and as such I leave it in his responsibility to continue those management projects.
Anyhow, I just wanted to take a moment to address the global moderator issue and I will clarify this as we get further into the new year.
