No, that's the only picture I have unfortunately, but I see what you mean. However, I'm pretty sure that it was growing like a quince. As you can see the fruits are very near the ground. This reminds me of another problem. What is this? www.hagepraten.no/gallery/pic.php?mode=large&pic_id=1272I grew this from seed (probably about 8 years) received as Malus sylvestris. It produced masses of sour fruit for the first time this year. I keyed this out as sylvestris earlier from the leaves and thorns (only a few hairs along the leaf veins if I remember correctly), however, perhaps this also fits hybrid crabs too?

I no nothing about the japanese quince, apart from the fact a friend had a bush of it, it was a rampant close to the ground thing that needed winter protection, sure did not look like this one. As for the apple, it is frigin hard to say, there is sooooo much hybridation with them...I find it a bit overbearing for a pure sylvestris, but that does not mean it can't happen.
It is just that if somebody knew the answer and forced me to bet some money on a wild or a hybrid, I'd put my money on a hybrid...

Stevil, I have 5 bushes of Chaenomeles Japonica (Cido) but they all have yellow fruit... yours has red fruit, it seems to be other Chaenomeles ? I never eat the fruit raw, usually they are made into marmalade or into jelly but the peeling work and removing seeds are pretty intensive, nevertheless they produce the best marmalade and jelly! Your Chaenomeles fruit is very attractive though !
