OMG, I'm soooo overwhelmed by this. I've been 15 years in an area where we didn't even have curbside garbage pick up. I burned brush, paper meat wrappers, scrap paper and cardboard. Recycling was free, but we had to purchase Bag Tags for $1 each to put on ALL bags of garbage, so my trips to the landfill usually consisted of One Bag with Tag and 6 bins of recycling. The chickens, cats, hogs and dogs ate kitchen scraps and bones. And we were able to recycle plastic, cans, metal and newspaper. Now I find myself with a program that includes a Blue Box, a Grey Box, a Green Box, a Cardboard Box Box and Big Box Stores. The waste management office was great at explaining what this program entails. And then yesterday, I received a 2009 Curbside waste calendar in the mail, to remind me what goes where and on what week. Now it will be 2 bags allowed per week at curbside; any more than that must be tagged. So that's a bonus! I won't generate a bag a month so they won't be seeing tags from me. But what's totally new to me is the Big Greenie. Can you put used snot rags in the big greenie?? ;D I understand that the Green Bin is for any and all kitchen scraps including paper towels and items that might not compost easily or attract unwanted critters in an urban area. What I am interested in finding out is how many of you who have a Green Bin actually use it? And for what items? Do you compost as much as possible in your own yards and then send the extras to the landfill compost? It's only $6 for us to purchase Green...I'm just not sure I'll make use of it??

I don't know about your greenie, but I'm glad to hear that you're getting settled in at the new place.

Okay, so I went this afternoon and bought 3 out of 4 of the available recycling boxes, including a green one. I've already half filled it with dust from the shop vac, egg cartons and such. So much for wondering if I'd use it Thanks House...I'm trying. I found part of the floor tonight to run the vacuum over, LOL
