This may sound really stupid, but I'll try just about anything when it's free. A friend gave me a HUGE roll of the big-sized bubble-pop stuff used for packing, and I was thinking it might be good to staple to a frame for the top of a cold frame. Do you guys think it would hold up long, or would prolly break down really quick? I thought the air pockets would be good insulation. I have such little room in the sunroom to start my plants and am always looking for good cold frame ideas for outside.

Well, I don't know about using it as the plastic for a main coldframe but maybe for over low hoops to start lettuce early. The best use I've seen is to line coldframe / greenhouse glass to increase insulation.
Oh and according to me, not stupid at all. If you want to see garden fixation, come with me to a hardware store. You'd be amazed at what I can envision with plumbing fixtures or maybe not...

Oh, yeah. It would work great on hoops. I didn't think about that. I have room to start just about all my lettuces and arugula in the sunroom, but not much else. I'm hoping to get lots of flowers going early this year for my wedding! I have found that if I start the sunflowers around now, I can get two really good harvests by the end of the growing season, instead of just one.

We use the smaller bubble version of it for the tops of our outdoor germination chambers and it does help hold the heat and lets in plenty of light. How well it stands up is yet to be determined as this will only be the 2nd year of trialling.

How wide is the roll? If I had some for free, I'd definitely use it. I bet it lasts 2 or 3 years easily if you dry it and put it away out of the sun.

It is three feet wide, which I think is prolly wide enough for good use.

June 20th. A Midsummers Night wedding. Well, I'm relying mostly on my purple coneflower patch, which is awsome by that time, for many of my arrangements. I'm hoping to have shastas, jasmine vine (madagascar), moonlilies (in big pots for entryways and such), clove dianthus for hanging, evening primrose for small arrangments (Innocence), and some pyrethrum (robinsons) for more dark pink color to go with the coneflowers and other vase arrangments. I'm not sure which ones I need to get started early and if some may not flower this year at all, so I've got to do my research. Those are just flowers I really like for color and scent. Oh, and I'll be using whatever roses are blooming in my rose garden at that time. I should have quite a few from Lincoln, Peace, and Tropicana. And you thought that would be a simple answer!

Actually, I think it's a great idea! I read in a magazine (forget which one) where a good way to reuse bubble wrap is to place it on windows you dont need a clear view from in winter to insulate against the cold. Put it right on the pane all the way to the edge of the frame.

Moonie, That's strawberry season up here. I know, because many years ago, I picked strawberries on June 19th but didn't get to eat them. Instead, I left the bucket on the kitchen table and went to the hospital to have a baby. It may be past strawberry season down there, but if not, they would be lovely to include in your festivities. Somewhere hon, I have a Country Living magazine with a Summer Country Wedding which might have some ideas to pass along to you...I'll look for it. I think I know which pile of boxes it's in. And June 20th would be Sean Ono Lennon's birthday, which considering your Betroth's name, I think is an appropriate piece of trivia
