So I just finished reading this cheesy book about 'Worst Weather in Canada' and may I say When reading about a blizzard in Niagra that deposited 12 metre high snow drift on the lake shore on houses that were acting like a snow fence, I thought that must have been a typo. Apparently the temperature dropped to minus 55 with the windchill, honestly. I was frightened. Then I thought about how long it would take for that snow to melt in the spring. Reading about the Red River floods in Manitoba has confirmed my reluctance to live in Winnipeg (I love you guys but...) Ottawa only had the privledge of being witness to the ice storm in this book. An ice storm that shattered trees. I remember travelling to Montreal the spring afterward and forests were riddled with trees snapped in half. I gotta admit that my gardening obsession made me principally gardening focused and the dirty thirties were described in a vividness that would make any farmer weep.

The avg snowfall for my town is 110 in/yr. We are at 2400'. There are times you can still see snow patches in mid June. July is the only month you might not see a snowflake here. Looks like we might only get a foot of snow today.

Wow. I had no idea and may I just, if I ever get a chance to visit, it will only be in July.
Today we're going to getting 20cm (what's that in feet???)

A rough conversion of cms to inches is divide by 5 and then multiply by 2. ie 45cm = 18 inches or 20 cms = 8 inches

That's an easy way to remember. Thanks, Val. Why the US cannot just use metric is beyond me.

Because if the U.S. converted to Metric, then what would I do??
I have everything I receive via email like Yahoo weather and Weather Network converted back to Imperial Measurements cuz I still after 30 years of Metric Conversion can't be bothered to figure it out.
