I admit to TOTAL confusion.
If i post something here, how do I ever know if any one answers me?
I found one answer because I was just here, online, when almost no one else was awake.
But I really have NO IDEA how to follow waht is happening here.
Can anyone help?

Potagere, When there is a new post on any of the forums, for the day, it is highlighted by being a darker black. Also there is a time stamp. So if you look at the home page and see a time stamp that is later than when you last visited, you will find a new post. When you open each of the forum headings you will see the word new if you haven't looked at that particular posting. I hope this helps. When you book onto the site it should tell you if you have any new messages. Cheers, Val/grungy

Potagere... first i'd like to say welcome to the forumn. We've been getting so many people lately i haven't even met half of em yet. Then here's something that might help you out: alanbishop.proboards60.com/index.cgi?action=recentIt's the ten most recent posts for the entire forumn. You can see the link to it at the bottom of the index page. Then you can come back to this "most recent page" and refresh it as many times as you like. Every time someone posts a new message in any thread it will show up here immediately. Even your own posts will be here by the time you get done posting it and can get back to the search page. It's just something i've found that makes it easier to keep up with all the posts. Gotta warn ya.. sometimes people around here talk pretty fast though. You may need to refresh it every few minutes cause it's only gonna list the last ten messages. Hope that helps ya.. Dave

If you start the thread you should see up in the top left corner a button to add it to your bookmarks. Actually now that i'm looking for it.. even if you don't start the thread... i see just two spaces down right under the character counter.. it's showing a box you can check to add this thread to your bookmarks. I've done that on a few of the threads i've started. What it does is it will send you a PM message to let you know when anyone posts to that thread. You may find that usefull as well. Once you get the hang of navigating around here you may not want too many bookmarks though.. you'll get PM notifications all day long if you do. Dave

Thanks, everyone! I also have just discovered that if I open my profile, it shows me where I have been most recently (which is how I found my way back here!) I-m guessing I will figure it out. I surely do hope so, because I think there is a lot of good stuff (and good people!) here.

Potagere - welcome! Another tip - up at the top of your screen, you'll see by the page title a line that says "Hey, Potagere, you have (a number) messages, (a number) are new. This is where you recieve private messages (PMs). If you want to PM someone, for example if you want to offer or ask for seeds in trade, you click on their user name, and a screen about them will pop up. There will be an option to PM them. If this line tells you you have a new message, click on the blue printed portion of the sentence, and it will take you to your in box. Additionally, you can leave your PMs there for a long time, which can be useful if you're trading with someone, so that you have a private place to keep address info, and all that.
More than once, if one of us has been offline for several days, and we can't find a thread, we've posted a new thread, asking where the first one is. Someone will be able to find it for you, and link it so you can see it again.
Glad you've joined us!

Welcome. An American living in France? I was an Australian living in France for five years or so. Great country.
Anyway, as already mentioned, you can bookmark an thread you want to follow. You have to set up the bookmarking if you want to be notified when someone adds to the thread(s) you're following.

Well, hey, raymondo, I'll bet you had some experiences similar to ours!
I've "bookmarked" threads and gotten nothing So what's this "set up the bookmarking" bit?

Well, hey, raymondo, I'll bet you had some experiences similar to ours! I'm sure. The French bureaucracy was the thing that really used to set me off. I discovered that the only way I could cope with it was to treat it as a game! Classic story ... When I first moved there, I wasn't working, just enjoying myself. When I got my first Taxe d'habitation bill I noted that unemployeds and others could get either a reduction or even an exemption. I took myself off to the local Centre des impĂ´ts and enquired. I was told that I would have to prove that I was unemployed. I suggested to the woman behind the counter that this was pretty much an impossible task as I would need a letter from every employer in France stating that I was not an employee. She looked at me for a moment, then said Il faut payer alors, or words to that effect. You just have to laugh! I've "bookmarked" threads and gotten nothing So what's this "set up the bookmarking" bit? Go to your profile, click on Bookmarks, click on Manage bookmarks and set up how you want to be notified. I have mine set to send me a PM when someone adds to a thread I'm following.
