coccineus, since the cotyledons are in the ground.

That's how my big white potato beans come up and why I think that they are P. coccineus.

Vulgaris sends out the colyledons out of the ground, then when they open you have the 2 leaves stage wherethey are still attached to the stem. The cotyledons growing out of the soil The cotyledons still attached at the 2 leafs stage: With coccineus, the cotyledons stay in the ground, as in the pictures above, although in that case they were not sowed very deep.

That's what I thought...these are pictures of the Soisson beans you sent me, CanadaMike. I think they got switched somewhere along the line, perhaps your source was mistaken in what they gave you, because what came up definately does not have the typical growth pattern of a vulgaris. Not exactly what I expected, but I'm sure will be delicious nonetheless. And now I have white runner beans, which I did not have before. All 7 seeds germinated, even after being drenched and washed out of their spots by an over-eager 4 year old with a bucket. Cest la vie. Paquebot, you are some amazingly skilled gardener if you can get potato onions to grow from bean seeds!

Paquebot, you are some amazingly skilled gardener if you can get potato onions to grow from bean seeds! Thanks for catching that! I do grow both potato beans and potato onions. Brain thinking of one and fingers looking at the other! Martin

I am seeding them soon, so I will definitely check. I think my source might be mistaken too in the species department then, but they are apparently delicious anyway...
