I have always had a lot of different hobbies but the ones I've been able to share with my children have always been the very best. Today ol dad had the honor of racing a pinewood derby car with my daughter. We built a winner 2nd year in a row. Take a peak at my powder puff champ! My daughter is the one placing her car on the track (far left) And there off! After the race - picking up the first place trophy Yep ........ all smile

That's totally awesome CFF! We did something similar for the boys birthday once. We had precut "car like" shapes (think scraps from building the shed) that we drilled holes in. Then we got a couple dowels that we cut to length to put through the holes as axels. Next, we circle drilled wheels out of a piece of particle board and drilled holes in them as well. The kids got to put the parts together to make their own cars then we had a ramp that was also scrap material and had races. They had a BLAST and they spent a whole lot more time racing than we figured they would. The boys were 5 and 7 that year. We still have a couple of the cars hanging around. Bet your daughter remembers that race for a very long time!

Our son always enjoyed Pine Wood Derby when he was in Cub Scouts. What group was doing the event here, CFF? By the way, your daughter is a beauty. My 14 year old wants to know where she got her sweatshirt, too.

Lav”
Thanks for the kind comments - I’m getting that empty nest syndrome feeling so ever minuet counts.
Girl scout’s hosted the event – it’s an annual event here (Father daughter pinewood powder puff derby) and a lot of fun for old dad. Our son was involved in Boy Scouts for a few years and he also has a 1st place trophy in the pinewood derby event; but after his first pinewood event he lost interest and dropped out of Boy Scouts.
This is my daughter’s last year in Girl Scout’s as she’s working toward her Gold award now. I’ve had a lot of fun over the years – Girl Scouts have provided a number of (father / daughter) events so it’s been a great avenue to spend time with my daughter.
I asked her where she got the sweatshirt from but she didn’t remember, if she thinks of the place I’ll shoot ya a PM.

What project is she doing for her Gold Award? Our daughter was in Girl Scouts for a couple years, but the area leaders were less interested in making sure girls were included, and more interested in how popular they themselves were. We opted out after an incident that was very nasty. It's unfortunate, because at it's best, Scouts is a great experience for both girls and boys. She was much happier in 4H. I'll bet she would have enjoyed a pine wood derby, though!
So, is your girl going into her senior year, then? Ours starts HS this fall... gah!!!!
