Hey everybody, I produced way too many seedlings this year in slips and since I didn't get to offer Hoskins/Barger yellow as seed, I thought that I would offer some tomato slips of it instead, along with Cherokee Purple. If your interested just send me a bubble enveloupe SASE (two stamps), a Zip bag and a $2.00 (to cover my production costs) and I'll send you back 12 slips of your choice. PM me for my address. -Alan

Could you give me some idea what Hoskins/Barger is? Thanks, Tom

A large (usually about 1 pound) yellow tomato with a pink blush on the blossom end, usually streaked on the inside. It's been in my moms family for 5 generations.
Hope that helps. -Alan

They sound really interesting looking. How are they for taste??
I can't order plants, but I've just sent you a PM regarding seeds. If not any available until this fall for the 2008 growing season, that's quite alright with me.

Can anyone think of another yellow tomato with pink blush?? I've asked Alan for seed this coming fall, but I would just like to be able to research tomatoes of similar colour & size?
They sound so pretty...

BLRH,
There are several yellow/gold type bicolors that have pink/red blush depending on the epidermis color.
In order for a bicolor tomato to appear truly yellow with a pink blush, the epidermis of the tomato would have to be clear rather than yellow. If the skin were yellow, then the tomato would appear gold with a red blush which is more common for bicolor tomatoes.
Yes, I agree with you, a truly yellow tomato with a pink blush would be very pretty. I've only grown one tomato that fits that description and it was an accidental cross which I have not verified will come true in subsequent generations. The seed I planted was supposed to be Djena Lee (a yellow gold tomato), but turned out pink during the hot season and yellow with a pink blush in the cool fall weather.

BLRH,
Also described as "yellow with a pink blush" is the Golden Queen, USDA Strain: From USDA seed bank, originally from Livingston in 1882. Eight - 12 ounce fruit is yellow with distinct pink blush on blossom end. Good flavor.

Has anyone ever grew Purple Passion. I transplanted some slips today and was researching it at DG but nobody had rated it. It sounds like a good tomato.

Thanks for the link to Skyfire, Down! I can't order directly from them (sales only to the U.S.)..but I bet I could impose on a couple of friends to get me some if I sent them the money.
