Flowerpower posted on the evening of June 14th to organize a chat to begin after 9:30pm EDT. I arrived a bit early; no one else in the chat room. I was away from my puter for a few minutes. Seems Canada Mike and Lavandula came and went when I wasn't there to greet them? Daylilydude arrived. Great to "see" you! It's been a while. I logged out by accident, lol, but came back when Flowerpower arrived on the scene and said that she and Dude were discussing Tomatoes. We chatted about Tomatoes, Swiss Chard, Marigolds, second cropping down south versus those of us in a short season wondering if this year, we will indeed get any crops?? Later on, Lavandula returned followed soon after by MNJRutherford and Elkwc. Hope I didn't leave anyone out?? The conversation turned to ordering Chinese food in and around Google?? Is that when you do a Google search and it lists restaurants?? But Jo's going to take pics of Giant Marigolds for us today so that we can see these monsters That'll be fun. Apparently there was some confusion about the actual Chat time? Flowerpower posted the time on the Live Chat thread when she organized the chat. Members with questions regarding same could easily have posted their concerns on that thread. I read these boards several times a day. I would have confirmed the time for you. What's this about members saying that they can't chat because they are on Dialup Internet service??? I had Dialup Internet from 2001 until January 2009. Didn't hold me back any. When MSN groups had Chat capabilities, I was in Poultry chats at least twice a week. Might take a little longer to load the chat software the first time, but it has no bearing whatsoever on the actual chat room itself once you are in it. there, you are only limited by your ability to read and type.... It was a Good turnout. Thanks for coming folks, and thanks to Flowerpower for organizing the evening's entertainment.

It was a very good idea. I came in when nobody was around, but then I had real work the one for the paycheck ) to do on the puter, so would do it while I was alone on the chat. It might be good to tell folks that they can contact the people while they are elsewhere by using the sound tones right over the writing box or double-click the name of the person on the name's list at the right, a small window will then appear on the screen of the person wherever that person is on the net, in other windows.

I have tried before to load whatever it is that you have to do to be able to chat, but can't get it to work on my computer. I probably couldn't read and type fast enough anyway...

It was a good chat session last night, even if I couldn't get my time zones straight.
So... for those of you who couldn't make it due to time constraints... when would be a better time? I'm sure there are some of us who could come inside for awhile during the day, fi earlier would be better. Likewise, some of us could stay up a little later to catch the last hours. Remember, staff don't need to be in the chat room to facilitate, so if you can't get one of us, just go have a chat together, and then fill us in on the details later.
For those who PM'd me to ask for a transcript to be posted, I'm trying to think of a viable method of doing it. There will be a solution, I'm sure, so that those who can't access chat due to their computer connections, or time zone, can participate later.

With the time zone issue narrowing it down to a couple hours is gonna be sort of dicey. Any way to figure the time spread and maybe go 4 to 6 hours, have multiple monitors that could transcript copy on the hour? That way we could have the best of... ::chuckles:: the whole world?

Are we the Members children that need to report to the Teacher?? And what's with this Transcript recording stuff?? Are you going to have our Telephone conversations recorded too??

Whatever. I got several PMs asking for transcripts so that the members could at least see what was discussed, even if they couldn't be there. I'm surprised you're making this an issue, since you posted the details of last night's chat in the original post.

I kinda like the idea of a transcript especially if good info gets passed around. Like the chard discussion. I missed out on it so it was nice to hear what was said.
But you have a good point there Blue. Think there might be a sort of happy medium? Certainly something to ponder.
OH! Here's a thought! Maybe have chat DAY? Then if just the highlights could be posted somehow? Not necessarily the fun chatter, but the plant part. And those wonderful zinnia photos that DLD sent us links to.

It So... for those of you who couldn't make it due to time constraints... when would be a better time? Yeah, what would be a better time? Maybe we need a few start times. Like one for the East Coast & one for the West. So if you start at 9 pm Pacific, it's midnight here. People would still be chatting. But members would at least know someone will be there. As for transcripts of the chats, I am not crazy about the idea. So I will leave that for Lav to figure out.

Oh for pete's sake... we're talking about transcripts of scheduled chats, not the dirty details of every bitch session that goes on in chat. If people want to read my complaints about Michel, they just need to show up in chat at the time. (CM - )
I'm talking about posting the transcripts as they pertain to growing things, since that's primarily what we talk about here. For example, had the transcript from the other night been posted, and MnJ's comment about her flowers that weren't blooming was read, perhaps there would be another suggestion besides the one about too much nitrogen, or too fertile soil. Most likely, discussions about where the best Dim Sum in NYC is to be found would be excised, as it would take up band width, making the transcript more difficult, perhaps, for dial uppers.
Honestly, it hasn't even been possible to post transcripts yet. If people have constructive objections, please post them. If the objection is that you feel too big-brother-monitored, well okay then. But remember, we are primarily concerned with growing things, and a scheduled chat should be something everyone can read.
By the way, for those who don't know (I didn't, til FP showed me) there is a way to have a private IM convo while in the chat room. Therefore, you could be sidebar bitching about me the entire time, I'd be none the wiser, and the transcript could still be posted. Problem solved.

Thumbs up!, Bunkie. - Must be west coast humor. By the way guys and gals, I have big shoulders, if you want to bitch about me - feel free. If you are bitching about me, then chances are you aren't bitching about someone else with thinner skin. But I sure would be interested in what the bitching is about. Sorry we haven't been in chat, but we rarely get in until after all the rest of you have gone to bed. Like 9:30-10:00 PM PST.
