Alan, you look more like a farmer and less like a hippie now that it's gone.

Yep, that was at the Salem farmers market. I hadn't planned on going really, just a spur of the moment kind of thing. I actually got my husband to go, then we went by Beck's Mill. I was surprised by how few vendors there were. The market in Orleans has between 20-40 vendors, and lots of shoppers. They have music I think pretty much every Sat, and often there will be a chef giving cooking demos from items at the market. I don't usually go to the market, but I did go yesterday and they were busy despite the light rain falling.

Not the best pic of me in the world, I look like the big mutant guy from goonies!
It was good to see you at market Karen. Yeah, our market is fairly small, not a lot going on, but we don't have the people not involved in market behind the scenes to manage the whole ordeal and as such we don't get all the cool stuff going on that go on elsewhere.
Speaking of Becks Mill though, Kim and I have been asked by the new board of directors to get involved in demonstrations and creating a historic garden there, offering historic seeds, and running the soon to be re-built greenhouse. Should be fun!

That's great Alan. The guide told us we should check out the plants and the greenhouse, that the old lady had planted a lot of stuff. So, I was looking forward to it, but have to say I didn't see much. There are a few things growing there that someone might want to consider yanking out, things that will tend to take over. Is the greenhouse the structure that was built of geodes? Or did we just not walk far enough up the hill? That lady must have been a character. I never would have thought of using all those different stones for constructing a greenhouse, but I bet it looked really cool in its prime. Are they going to rebuild the GH right there, or another GH from scratch. It seems almost a shame to do anything to it as it is now. I like the look of a sort of ancient ruin. Anyway, if I have any plants that you could use, you are more than welcome to them. Mayfinn-I hope things are going well for you. I have tons of plants that are in need of division, if you would be interested. That goes for anyone in my area as well. Do you ever get over this way? It is only about a 30 minute drive from Pekin to Paoli. I would be happy to load up someones car with some plants!

Karen, We are doing well, just super busy around here. I will definitely have to take you up on that offer...we are always looking for new plants. When we moved in here, it had been nothing but fields. Not too much growing that we didn't plant. Just a few kinds of wildflowers and a ton of weeds. We often joke that if it weren't for weeds, we would have no grass at all. We have been to Paoli several times lately, not a bad drive at all.
