Here are some pictures of the 2nd annual Tomato tasting hosted by me in Little Mountain SC. I provided 110 varieties of Heirloom tomatoes totaling around 800lbs of tomatoes. There were an additional 6 varieties provided by others. We discussed seed saving, general culture and how best to enjoy a good tomato. Good pics. Thanks for sharing them here Rodger. The Tennessee Britches looks good. Can you tell us a little about it? And Table 5! Even though I know they are all tomatoes, from a distance it looks like theres a bowl of limes, one of kumquats, some cranberries, a small dish of gooseberries and yep, maybe even some tomatoes, hehe.

Tenn. Britches has been a popular tomato for me this year. I was given seed for this tomato last year by Gary Millwood in Louisville Ky. He recieved the seed from Craig Lehueller who recieved them from a trade on Gardenweb. Craig is going to dig through his papers over the next months as time allows and find the write up that came with the seeds. Other than that Craig was impressed enough with this tomato to share seed with Victory Seeds and they offer the seed for sale. It is reg leaf, very healthy plant with good leaf coverage bearing large 2 lbs plus tomatoes The two in the picture weighed right at 3 lbs. Besides size, which I am not a huge(smile) fan of in tomatoes, this tomato does have an outstanding taste. We canned up a few which for the size didn't take too many to fill several quart jars.I picked 6 tomatoes off of one plant and had nearly 14 lbs with several tomatoes still on the vine. I also shared plants at Southern Legacy seeds 10th annual seed swap in Crawford Ga. and have recieved some e-mails regarding this tomato. So obviously it has something to boast about. Rodger

Bluelaceredhead on table #5 your are very close, there is gooseberries in one of the bowls. It is Hartmans yellow gooseberry a cherry tomato. The largest tomatoes were the Tenn Britches smallest was spoon, which is the size of a pea. I had several others around 2 plus lbs such as Reif Red Heart, Bulls Heart, Ammanas orange, and Black Mountain Pink to name a few.

OOOOOOO thanks for the description of the Britches, Rodger. Now I did read a poor review on the taste of Tenn Britches on another board, but as we all know, weather conditions figures greatly in the outcome of tomatoes (or any veggie for that matter) from yeare to year. So one season is never enough to pass final judgement.
Then of course there is personal taste.
I think I'll look into trying Tenn Britches for 2008/9 at the very least.
