I love to garden and this will be my first year with my own back yard to garden in. No more apartment life for me!! I have been working for the forest service for the last ten+ years and am currently a lab technician. I do research on forest pathogens (mostly genetics / phylogeography). Besides gardening I like fishing, hunting, camping, cooking, and wine. I plan on growing out a lot of varieties of just about every kind of vegetable I can think of next summer. I hope to have a lot of fresh seed to trade and share about this time next year. I'm so excited to have a 1/4+ acre garden in zone 6b!! The growing season here can be 175 to 200+ days and my soil is very fine sandy loam will excellent drainage. I just hope the neighboring trees don't block too much sunlight. You can also watch my garden here myfolia.com/gardener/Happyskunkand maybe here happyskunk.blogspot.com/Just getting started, John

Why does it say gopher under my name? This is quite insulting to a skunk.

Hi John, Welcome to our "gang". Hope you enjoy it here. As for the "gopher" title it just indicates that you are fairly new to the board. As you post you will notice that you will move up through several titles. By the way - howdy neighbor, I see that you are just a hop, skip and a jump south of us as we are just above the Idaho panhandle and below Kootenay Lake. Cheers, Val (grungy) and Dan (grunt)

Thanks everyone. The garlic is growing already. I checked and the roots of the Kettle River Giant were already over an inch long.
