Here's a really nice, well illustrated, one page educational piece from Purdue about the root system of the emerging corn plant. Learn all about the difference between the seminal root system and the crown or nodal root system. If we don't share the same vocabulary, it's hard to analyze or even talk about problems, surprises, desirable traits, and so on. www.agry.purdue.edu/Ext/corn/news/timeless/Roots.htmlAmong other things, this gives insight as to why corn often does poorly when started in cells indoors for transplant. It also suggests ways to improve your odds if you want/need to try that. Bigger Cells gives much better odds since you can reduce damage to the seminal root system. Finest regards, troy
