Sadly the creator of the site passed away recently, it seems, but she left a wealth of knowledge. To get a sense of this, for example, read her article on processing acorns.

Garden is a clearing in the woods grading from shallow, rocky soil supporting a maple bush to a pine forest planted on sandy soil and a clay bottomland with spruce and tamarack.

To go along with this website, I was in a secondhand bookstore (a habit of mine. You should see our house, rows and rows of bookshelves) and I found Reap without Sowing and the Neighbourhood Forager in mint condition.

That was a good reading night.
