Didn't someone here say that they wanted to try saving seeds from one of these grocery store tomatoes? Or was it on another site? I bought a couple yesterday, and am happy to save seeds for that person, if they still want to try growing it. (Or whoever else). Just let me know in the next few days...

Last time I bought them, Val, they were a pretty good slicer. Better by far than any other mass marketed store bought tomato I've had. They're a good sized red, with pleats on the top. I'll ferment some starting tomorrow, and they should be ready to mail in a couple weeks. Just PM me your address.

Flowerpower sent me seeds from one she purchased last at the grocery store in 2007. Maybe she'd like seeds from another strain ??

What's so ugly about them?

They're marketed as "ugly" because they don't look like smooth, round, red supermarket potatoes. Basically, they look like a garden tom. My understanding is that they were bred from Marmande.

I say tomato, you say potato? ;D
Save 5 or 10 seeds for me, too.

Jtcm05 - come on man - its winter, and unless you have a secret tomato source ( please tell us poor deprived (or is that depraved) tomato growers where) or can grow tomatoes in a snowbank (share your secret 8>) ), we have to make do with store bought. Sob! Cheers, Val

I grew Ugly Ripe in 2006 and Super Marmande in 2007. Very similar in every way and neither really ugly.

Martin - did the Ugly Ripe have decent germination? Did you also save from a store bought tomato, or did you get the seeds another way?
