Some of these are ones which did not come up the first planting, or I thought hadn't. Others I ones I decided to grow or got after the first planting. There are still a few others I want to plant. Some are here and some are on the way.

I've only got 18 or 19 varieties started so far. Still waiting for a seed order to come in, but I think I've got around 80 varieties to start this year. There's still a lot of snow outside, but it is finally starting to warm up a bit, melt a bit, and feel a touch of spring. I can't wait to get outside and actually play in the mud!! So starting seeds is the only way to get muddy right now! Gotta get moving on it, too.

How do you store your seeds? Just noticed some of the dates, 1991 - 1995. What kind of germination rate do you get with the old ones?

I haven't kept my seed very well. Usually in a closet that I'm sure got too hot. I'm coming up with a plan for this year. As I didn't count the number of seeds on the old stuff, I don't know what the germination was. I was hoping to get something.

Out of 28 kinds of tomatoes with seed at least 7 years old, I got 12 to sprout. Of those 12, 10 were from the mid nineties or early 90s. One of them, Stump of the World, I don't think is going to make it.

I soaked the rest of these seeds and replanted. Maybe too thickly, but since I know I can get seed for all of them I'm not too concerned if they don't come up.

I've read if you can keep the total of temp + humidity below 100, you have the best chance of storing the seed. A steady temp of 40 or 50 with the humidity below 50 is better for the seed than freezing and thawing.

So, I'm going to keep my seed in the unheated basement in sealed tubs with some silica. I'll see how that works.

I've been planting up the first set of seedlings. I've got most of them in 2x2 cells now. Some of the small ones went into 1x1 cells, but by themselves. I think I've got close to 400 seedlings so far.

I'll start on the 2nd planting this weekend. It looks like some of the old seed came up after a month. Of course I had replanted by then.

I'll report this weekend on what finally came up and didn't come up.
